Dr. Mohammad Al-Saidi (@Dr_malsaidi) is a Research Associate Professor at the Center for Sustainable Development at Qatar University. 

 

His research interests include:

 

  • Environmental development
  • Water governance
  • Management of transboundary resources
  • Energy and sustainability policies

Dr. Al-Saidi has worked on projects and published papers on Yemen, the Gulf, East Africa, and Jordan on a range of environmental policy issues. Prior to joining Qatar University in 2016, he worked as a senior researcher with the Institute for Technology in the Tropics (ITT) of the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences in Germany (2011-2016).

 

Dr. Al-Saidi has a strong track of academic publications and projects. He has won Qatar University Research Excellence Award in 2021. His has been listen among the 2% most influential scientists in a study by the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford University (listings of 2021, 2022, 2023). In 2022, he has been elected as member of the Arab German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA).

 

Dr. Mohammad Al-Saidi is a 1st generation Yemeni-German. He holds a doctoral degree in economics (Dr. rer. pol.) from Heidelberg University (2008-2013). Previously, from 2002-2008, he studied at Heidelberg University finishing with double degree (both undergraduate and postgraduate) in both political sciences and economics. He also holds a graduate degree on sociology from Hagen University (2019). His studies were awarded with scholarships from the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the previously from the Yemeni government.

 

Dr. Al-Saidi strongly believes in science that has tangible impacts, based on values such as sustainability, equity and diversity. Thus, he has been engaged internationally in research dissemination, policy transfer and coalition building.
